It’s a stereotype that’s not entirely untrue; people across South East Asia are friendlier, and seem happier, than those anywhere else in the world. Maybe it’s all that fantastic food.
I’ve never liked Rome - it’s a dreary, gritty, grim city. Maybe it’s because I was expecting it to be so, but I spent an awful day here earlier this year. I trudged all around town looking for a shop that didn’t exist and it began to rain halfway through, which would have been alright except I couldn’t find a single umbrella. Funny how you’re assaulted by umbrella vendors when it isn’t raining but the mere whisper of a drizzle is enough to send them scurrying.
Still, I did manage to get some pictures I wasn’t too unhappy with - I think the harsh, overbearing lines of this cathedral and the grimy colours of the photograph encapsulate my feelings about the Eternal (and eternally grim) City perfectly.
